Electronic Flexible Delivery in Biological Education

An earlier Newsletter stated the Executive’s interest in staging a ‘virtual symposium’ on flexible delivery in biological education in the latter half of 2000.

Major aims of the exercise included the introduction and development of the Institute’s web site as a useful stating point for many of those in our membership involved in secondary and tertiary education. In particular we want the site to present the means of accessing resources in biology education that might be useful for or incorporated into teaching programs.

More generally there was a desire to discuss issues (e.g. pedagogic) around electronic flexible delivery which might be of interest to members. This has proved a more difficult aspect to develop within the resources of the Executive. If however there were members who have particular expertise or interest in developing this, we’d welcome your involvement. An email may work best; otherwise there are contact details in the list at the end of the Newsletter.

At this stage, the ‘virtual symposium’ will take the form of the launch of an electronic flexible delivery feature for the Institute’s web site, in particular focussing on linkages to useful teaching resources plus providing members the opportunity to post questions comments and answers relevant to the topic. This will be under way as soon as possible in the New Year. Members will be advised by mail or email (see above) of the launch, and those who provide an electronic link (email address) will be advised of the web site developments.

To ensure timely delivery of information about the launch, please let us know your email address (see the front page of this Newsletter). We will be advising members by post as well, for those who don’t have (or prefer to not disclose) an email address.
