Writing for Australian Biologist

Australian Biologist will publish suitable articles, subject to refereeing, on biological or scientific topics of general interest to members of the Institute. Since Australian Biologist does not aim to compete with established scientific discipline journals, research manuscripts other than those in the general areas listed below cannot be accepted for publication. Articles submitted in these general areas should ideally be in a Scientific American-style, should have wide appeal, and contain high quality photographs or figures.

Articles, not exceeding 5000 words in length, should be typed or printed on A4 paper using double spacing. Two hard copies of the manuscript should be submitted to either the Scientific Editor or one of the members of the Publications Board listed below, if in their area of speciality. The names and addresses of up to five potential referees should be included in the letter of transmittal. Potential authors should consult previous issues of Australian Biologist. References should follow the Harvard system. More details can be obtained from the Executive Editor. Initial submissions should not include a disc copy, but authors will be asked to provide a computer version of their manuscripts revised according to the referee's and/or Scientific Editor's comments, on either a Macintosh computer disc or IBM disc in plain text or Word format.

Letters to the Editor on scientific issues, book reviews and computer programs with biological applications will be published after appropriate refereeing.
